I am done with the Nigerian National team - Ighalo

Retired Nigerian forward, Odion Ighalo has revealed that he has no intentions of returning to to the Nigerian National team as he has decided to pave way for upcoming Young Generations.

Ighalo called it a quit with the Nigerian national team after the AFCON 2019 where he earned the top scorer award and a 3rd Place Bronze Medal. 

Ighalo has come under scrutiny in recent times with the National team as he had once revealed the life threatening messages he received after the AFCON where critics where quick to lambast the Former Nigerian Number 9.

“For now I am done with the Super Eagles but in life you can never say never. I am in contact with the coach constantly, four days ago he sent me a message." Ighalo said in a live question and answer session on twitter.

“I still message him to wish the team good luck before they play a game."

“We have young, very good players in the team, the likes of Osimhen coming up scoring goals, Chukwueze – good exciting players.

“I just want them to keep doing the job because they are doing so well. For Super Eagles I want to concentrate on club football for now,” Ighalo said.

The 30 years old Nigerian who recently moved to Manchester United from Shanghai Shenhua is yet to establish his feet with the club side as he awaits a permanent deal from the EPL giants.

Ighalo's time with the Nigerian National team ended with 16 goals in 35 competitive games.
