Michael Owen predicts 2026 World Cup winners and underdogs

According to Michael Owen, a former England striker, France will be the champions in the 2026 World Cup. Thursday night marks the beginning of the competition this year.

Spain is the heavy favourite among bookies to win another major championship, following up on their two European titles from last year.

On the other hand, Owen, a three-time World Cup participant, thinks Les Bleus are “miles better” than their opponents.

Furthermore, he forecasted that England will, at most, reach the semi-finals, with Germany emerging as surprise contenders.

If I had to guess, I’d say Germany has a good chance of winning, but I have a sneaking suspicion that England will only make it to the semi-finals or maybe the quarter-finals, Owen told Metro.

“I believe they have what it takes to succeed. So, I’m going with France as the favourite, England to make it to the quarterfinals or semis, and Germany as the surprise team.
