New security measures for the farming season have been implemented by the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin. These measures include a crackdown on vehicles operating without registration plates or with concealed numbers, as well as an intensified effort to curb the possession of dangerous weapons.M
Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that yesterday, during a strategic security meeting with the Police Management Team, Department Heads, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), the CP issued the directions.
Emerging dangers, such as farmer-herder disagreements, community clashes, youth restiveness, hooliganism, and illicit drug misuse throughout the farming season, were reviewed at the conference, and proactive steps were developed to counter them.
In order to avert disputes and ensure peaceful cohabitation among inhabitants, the Jibrin directed all DPOs and Tactical Commanders to “intensify community engagement, intelligence gathering, and stakeholder collaboration.”
Vehicles without registration plates or with covered number plates should be impounded in accordance with the law, as directed by the CP to all DPOs and Tactical Commanders.
In regards to the issue of dangerous weapons, the Police Commissioner has ordered officers to step up their efforts to prevent the possession and circulation of cutlasses, bows, arrows, and other harmful items that people bring with them in order to start fights or engage in hooliganism.
“Persistent operations targeting secure locations, trouble spots, and regions thought to be housing criminals,” the Commissioner went on to order.
In addition to emphasising professionalism, decency, and respect for human rights, he cautioned officers against getting involved in civil and contractual issues.
The CP also advocated for ongoing education in areas such as community policing, human rights, firearms safety, and law enforcement.
In order to keep the peace and avoid crime in Yobe State, he pleaded with the public to help the police and other security services by supplying reliable information.
