Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has provided an explanation for his decision to withdraw from the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) bid for Deputy Secretary-General.
In a statement posted on his LinkedIn profile, the minister stated that he had given the position “careful consideration” and had chosen to concentrate on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s revolutionary agenda.
He claimed that the choice would allow him to prioritise and concentrate on the duties assigned to him by the President in the nation’s digital economy.
“After giving it some thought, I have chosen not to run for the International Telecommunication Union’s Deputy Secretary-General post.
“The possibility of a Nigerian serving as one of the ITU’s elected officers for the first time in its 160-year history was clearly appealing, both personally and for Nigeria.
Tijani declared, “My focus will therefore remain on supporting President Tinubu’s transformative digital economy agenda and ensuring that these critical programs deliver enduring value for the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
