Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the governor of Benue State, condemned the horrific attack on the Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area and praised the prompt apprehension of three suspects who were allegedly involved.
Eleven people tragically lost their lives in the attack on Thursday nite, including four police officers. According to a statement released on Friday by Tersoo Kula, the governor’s chief press secretary, Rev. Fr. Alia stated, “This heinous act is an attack on the peace-loving people of Ayilamo and a grave threat to the security and stability of Benue State.”
“The reported deaths of four law enforcement officers are especially upsetting and highlight the tremendous sacrifices security personnel make while performing their duties.”
He called it an unsettling reminder of the area’s ongoing insecurity and frequent attacks on law enforcement personnel and vulnerable populations.
In addition to offering sincere condolences to the residents of Ayilamo, the families of all the victims, and the entire Logo Local Government community, Governor Alia also expressed sympathy to the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, regarding the loss of the four officers who gave their lives in defence of their homeland.
“We honour their bravery and sacrifice and pray that God gives their families, coworkers, and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he stated.
The governor praised the Department of State Services (DSS), especially its employees in the states of Benue and Nasarawa, for the timely and expert operation that resulted in the apprehension of three suspects suspected of being involved in the Ayilamo attack.
He regarded the arrest as a critical step in determining the incident’s complete circumstances and prosecuting the perpetrators.
“We implore the DSS to step up its investigation and make the most of the data gathered from the suspects under its custody.
“To find and apprehend the remaining accomplices, sponsors, collaborators, and other individuals associated with the attack, every lead that becomes available should be carefully pursued.” He declared, “Everyone found guilty must bear the full weight of the law.”
In order to improve security in Ayilamo, Logo, and other vulnerable communities throughout the state, the governor promised that his administration will keep working with the security services.
“We are dedicated to supporting initiatives meant to stop additional attacks, safeguard locals, bring about peace, and make sure impacted communities get the care and assistance they require.”
“We urge the residents of Ayilamo and the neighbouring areas to maintain composure, alertness, and adherence to the law. I urge locals to give the security agencies reliable and timely information while abstaining from any activities that can escalate hostilities or jeopardise the ongoing inquiry,” he stated.
“We remain resolute in our determination to protect lives and property, uphold justice, and restore lasting peace across Benue State,” Governor Alia added, assuring the residents of Ayilamo and the entire state that they would not be left behind.
