Ten thousand soldiers are ready for Saturday’s governorship election, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command.
Additionally, the command instructed its election officials to maintain a professional, unbiased, and apolitical stance throughout the entire process.
The order was issued by Igbalawole Sotiyo, commandant of the Nigerian State Commandant’s Corps of Command (NSCDC), during a Sunday strategic meeting in Osogbo with Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Tactical Commanders.
According to a statement released by Adeleke Kehinde, the command spokeswoman, Sotiyo, the NSCDC personnel sent to oversee the election will be led by Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of the Corps.
Public trust in the Corps and the veracity of the security operation are directly impacted by how members behave, according to the commander of the Osun NSCDC.
Do not dishonour the Corps in any way; I beg you. According to Sotiyo, one should “respect fundamental human rights,” remain politically neutral, and avoid taking a side.
He ordered everyone to do their jobs properly by following the Corps’ SOPs and any other regulations that govern election security activities.
Throughout the election time, Sotiyo ordered area commanders to maintain discipline, professionalism, and responsiveness to people’ security concerns.
“A professional and non-partisan security agency responsible for protecting lives and property, critical national assets and infrastructure, while supporting the maintenance of peace and public order,” he said of the NSCDC.
Citizens were anticipated to be able to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation in the governorship election, which the commandant emphasised as a constitutional activity, and he asked personnel to treat voters with politeness and respect.
He reassured the public that the NSCDC will collaborate with other organisations to ensure a genuine and peaceful election process and ordered commanders to keep lines of communication open and brief their troops correctly.
Assuring citizens that the command will maintain vigilance prior, during, and after the election, Sotiyo pleaded with the people to assist security forces and report suspicious actions or threats thru the proper channels.
