The closing of the Falomo Mosque in the Ikoyi region of Lagos State has been characterised by Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, as provocative and unjust.
The announcement was made by MURIC in a statement that was signed by Professor Ishaq Akintola, the organization’s executive director.
According to footynaija, the statement was sent to them on Tuesday night. LBSCA, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, reportedly sealed the mosque, according to footynaija.
A few hours before this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival, our correspondent informs that the mosque is about to be sealed.
The agency’s decision was denounced by Akintola in the statement. On Wednesday, he said, the mosque would be open for Eid-el-Kabir prayers.
The government of Lagos State, headed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, should promptly open the mosque, according to Akintola.
According to him, “This afternoon, the Falomo Mosque in Ikoyi was sealed up by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA),” a government parastatal that reports to the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Our mosque’s seal must be removed immediately. We have obtained all the required documents for the building. We kindly request that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, His Excellency, step in as well.
