If President Bola Tinubu is unable to address the escalating security and economic crises in Nigeria, the Allied People’s Movement has called on him to step down or not run for president at all.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, issued a statement denouncing what the party deemed as the president’s assaults on John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of the Abuja Catholic Diocese.
The critics in the opposition party said that the government’s refusal to address the problems of average Nigerians and its intolerance of dissent were on display in the attacks on the revered Catholic cleric for remarks he made about the country’s economy.
The assaults on Onaiyekan were denounced by the APM as intolerable, and they emphasised the need to respect religious leaders when they speak out about national issues.
It is time for President Tinubu to step down from the presidency and make way for younger, more pragmatic leaders to take charge of our country. His history of making excuses shows that he is incapable of solving problems.
The president’s attack on John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, for his statements on the country’s worsening economic situation under Bola Tinubu’s administration, is severely condemned by the Allied People’s Movement, according to part of the statement.
The party went on to say that the administration had resorted to personal attacks instead of responding to the legitimate concerns voiced by citizens and religious leaders.
