Lecturers at Imo State University (IMSU) have announced that they will not assess or grade the examination scripts of students who take part in exams held during the current strike.
Stephen Oguji, the Chairperson of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at IMSU, shared this information in a statement released to the press on Saturday.
He informed students who are currently sitting for exams that the union is firmly dedicated to ensuring they do not graduate through a process that lacks integrity.
Oguji emphasized that the union disapproves of and rejects the administration of exams while the ASUU strike is ongoing.
He mentioned that the lecturers responsible for teaching, assessing, and grading students are currently on strike, and added that the exams being conducted were not designed by them and will not be graded or evaluated by them.
“We do not want students to jeopardize their exams. We aim to prevent them from losing their academic session, and most importantly, we want to ensure they do not graduate through a process that may later be questioned for its credibility,” he stated.
Oguji highlighted that the real adversaries of the students are not their lecturers, but those in positions of authority who have the power to address the issues that led to the strike.
He encouraged students to unite with the union in urging the state government to fulfill the Federal Government ASUU 2025 agreement concerning university funding.
