Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, has put forward the names of six commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for their screening and confirmation.
This announcement was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by Zape Upaa, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Alfred Aondoaver Emberga.
Governor Alia expressed that these nominations aim to strengthen the State Executive Council by bringing in additional expertise and administrative skills to his administration.
The nominees include Kuma Yenge, Roy Terna, Angwa Monday, Elizabeth Ogenyi, Solomon Iorpev, and Nick Eworo.
The governor has requested that the lawmakers review the nominees promptly and favorably, in line with their constitutional responsibilities.
This recent action is part of the Alia administration’s initiative to reorganize and enhance the state cabinet for better governance and effective implementation of government programs.
The vacancies were created when some previous members of the State Executive Council stepped down to pursue their political aspirations in the recent primary elections.
These commissioner nominations come as Governor Alia continues to advocate for stronger institutions and increased autonomy at the grassroots level.
In July 2026, Alia urged governors nationwide to adopt local government autonomy, deeming it crucial for enhancing administration and development at the local level.
He made these comments during a press briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Team at the State House in Abuja, where he noted that Benue has made significant strides in implementing local government autonomy.
“Our local government autonomy is inviolable, and it is in place. The judiciary also enjoys its own autonomy. These are facts that can be verified,” the governor stated.
Alia further encouraged politicians to refrain from politicizing insecurity, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in addressing security challenges instead.
