In preparation for the 2027 presidential election, a subset of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has proclaimed Sandy Onor as its unofficial nominee.
To become governor of Cross River State in 2023, the PDP fielded Onor, who was friendly with Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Onor went to the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja not long ago to buy the paperwork necessary to be nominated for president. He received the PDP presidential nomination papers before any other candidate.
During the years 2019–2023, Onor represented the Cross River Central Senatorial District in the Senate. In 2019, he was elected to the 9th Assembly of the Senate to represent the Cross River Central Senatorial District.
