Legendary AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo will soon lead Italy’s national football team.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Pirlo was approached by the Italian Federation on Friday regarding the position of head coach for the upcoming four years.
The current favourite to replace Francesco Guidolin as Italy’s head coach is the previous manager.
This follows Carlo Ancelotti’s and Pep Guardiola’s rejection of approaches from the Italian federation regarding the open coaching position.
Gennaro Gattuso resigned as head coach of the Italian national team in April, amicably, following the squad’s failure to earn a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
