As part of a larger reform effort to enhance professionalism, operational efficiency, and public trust in police, the Rivers State Police Command has declared the dissolution of all tactical units functioning inside the command. Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police, has ordered the action to be taken.
During the reorganisation, the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) was formed from the consolidation of all the previously existing tactical units.
More quick and coordinated responses to violent crime situations throughout the state are anticipated from the new unit.
According to a statement released by ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the Police Public Relations Officer, the command has charged the VCRU with addressing criminal threats in a timely and determined manner, all the while adhering to the rules of engagement and protecting basic human rights.
Additionally, the command issued a strong warning against misbehaviour, emphasising that officers will be disciplined for violations of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct and professional ethics. This includes extortion and misuse of office.
The command’s dedication to protecting lives and property was reinforced by Commissioner of Police Olugbenga A. Adepoju, who reassured locals and urged the public to back law enforcement’s efforts by reporting suspicious activities and unprofessional conduct.
