The recent killings and attacks in the Benue South senatorial district have been condemned by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Benue State.
State secretary Ibrahim Galma of the group released a statement in Makurdi on Thursday, urging Governor Hyacinth Alia to address the increasing insecurity by establishing a joint committee for peace and security.
In order to encourage discussion and avert more bloodshed, Galma urged that the group should include representatives from the Idoma, Igede, Agatu, and Fulani communities in Zone C.
Furthermore, he urged the administration of Benue State to enhance security presence in the impacted areas, arguing that doing so would promote harmony, solidarity, and peaceful coexistence.
Galma reminded Fulani people across the state of MACBAN’s dedication to peace and the rule of law, and he advised them to be calm and go to the proper authorities with any issues they may have.
“The Benue State Government, security agencies, and traditional institutions are hereby urged to take immediate and decisive action,” the statement read.
Galma prayed for the victims of the attacks, asking Allah to grant them eternal rest and provide the wounded and their families the fortitude to deal with the tragedy.
