The eight Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) was formally inaugurated by Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the governor of Anambra State.
The newly appointed members were given the mandate to improve institutions and strive for academic excellence by the governor, who carried out the duty on Thursday at the Anambra State Government House, popularly called Light House, Awka.
Soludo made note of the significance of their nomination, stressing that their term begins at a critical juncture for the organization.
A lot of difficult lifting is ahead of you. Under the incoming council leadership, I have faith that you will continue to deliver exceptional service. Do your best work with all the honesty, dedication, and enthusiasm in the world.
We are all passing through this life, so think about what’s best for the school and future generations. What matters is that, throughout your service, what positive changes occurred? That is the principle that you will follow.
In addition to Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, Professor O. J. Ogbuagu, Igwe Dr. Chris Oranu Chidume, Chief Peter A. Onwualu, and AIG Chris Ezike (Rtd.), the council is chaired by Professor Peter A. Onwualu.
The other members of the executive team include: Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, VC; Prof. A. C. Nweke, VP of administration and environmental sustainability; Prof. Obiora Ejiofor, VP of academics; and Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo, VP of development and union campus affairs.
Professors Matthias O. Ananti, Ogonna Ifebi, Nkeiruka Orji, MaryJude Igbodika, and Chukwunonso Ekesiobi are among the other members of the council.
The transition was prompted by systemic issues in the institution, according to Governor Soludo. He mentioned that the previous council had stayed dormant for reasons that were “inexplicable.”
He was certain that the new leadership, headed by Professor Peter Onwualu, would be able to turn things around, saying that he had complete faith in Professor Onwualu’s abilities to serve as both chairman and pro chancellor.
“This will be a different Council,” Onwualu remarked while responding. Our goal is to elevate COOU to the level of one of the nation’s top three public universities.
We will transform COOU into a formidable institution, despite the fact that weak institutions are a national issue in Nigeria. To make this a reality, we crave the backing of the Governor.
