The troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Danare responded promptly upon receiving notifications of foreign military presence, according to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.
Following standard border procedures, they contacted the relevant authorities within the Cameroonian Armed Forces, which led to the departure of Cameroonian forces from Nigerian soil.
“As a result, the situation was quickly handled to prevent any additional escalation,” the statement stated.
Also, initial investigations point to a disagreement over levies on farmland as the spark for the conflict between the Dadi Community of Cameroon and the Danare Community of Nigeria.
Additionally, it added that the initiative’s goals are to “avert future incidents,” improve border coordination, and explain operational procedures along the border.
The Division reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard all communities along Nigeria’s borders within its Area of Operations and to preserve the nation’s territorial integrity.
