On Saturday, June 13, the state of Adamawa will hold its local government elections. However, the Adamawa State Police Command has ordered that no local security groups, hunters, Civilian JTF, or other quasi-security organisations would be allowed to participate in the election.
Security for the election will only be provided by members of the formal security agencies, according to Thursday’s statement from the command. These agencies include the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), which will be deployed within the existing electoral security framework.
The Command has pledged to ensure the peaceful conduct of the election by deploying sufficient people and operational assets throughout all 21 LGAs, according to its spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje.
Nguroje claims that in order to ensure the security of voters, election officials, and election materials, the deployment of personnel encompasses all polling stations, ward collation centers, and local government collation centers.
“Efforts will be made to maintain a safe and smooth voting process by implementing a statewide travel restriction for both pedestrians and vehicles from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM on election day,” Nguroje added.
He made it clear that members of the accredited electoral authorities, accredited election observers, media practitioners performing election tasks, and emergency service providers are exempt from the limitation.
